Depressing Day For Yankee Fans

It is a sad day for Yankee fans when Alex Rodriguez A.k.A (A-Rod) makes his announcement to the media and admits to using a performance enhanced drug from 2001 - 2003. Alex Rodriguez a.k.a
(A-Rod) made a dramatic apology to his fans and team mates, saying" that he was sorry for using the performance enhanced drug" and has been clean ever since.

What I want to know is why in the world would a third baseman feel the need to use steroids? and what made Alex Rodriguez tell the world now about his drug use, when it has been supposedly 6yrs since he has used any steroids?

Did he decide to come clean with the world because of his guilt? Is he being blackmailed? or Is it just the stupidity of getting caught?
